So, get ready for the exciting & thrilling AMK trek in Rugged Sahyadri Mountains!
ALANG FORT: 4500 FT.
Top of the fort is the huge plateau. There are two caves on the fort for staying and 11 water cisterns. Remnants of buildings are spread over the fort. A small temple is also seen. From the fort, we can locate Mt. Kalsubai peak, Aundha-Patta fort, Bitangad situated in the east zone. At the north side, Harihar, Trimbakgad, Anjaneri are seen. To the south, we can locate Harishchandragad, Aajobagad, Khutta (pinnacle), Ratangad, Katrabai, and surroundings. 1 hour is enough to see the fort.
MADAN FORT: 4900 FT.
Madan gad is considered to be one of the most difficult forts to climb among all the forts in the Sahyadri. The fort is quite old and also impregnable. The area of the fort is quite small as compared to Alang and Kulang, its adjoining forts. There are only two water tanks on top of the fort in which water is available only until February. There is a cave, which can accommodate around 15-20 trekkers at a time. The area visible from the top of the fort is quite scenic.
KULANG FORT: 4820 FT.
Kulang fort is located in the Igatpuri area of Nashik district, on the western side of the Kalsubai hill range. This fort is adjacent to the Madan gad and Alang forts, all of which were constructed to protect the Nashik-Kalyan ancient commercial road.
There are few rock-cut cisterns and a cave on the fort. There is no significant construction on the fort, except for a Wada made from stone masonry and the ruined main gate. There is potable water on the way and plenty of clean water on the fort. There are spacious caves on the fort which could accommodate up to 100 persons. The pathway to the fort is made of rock-cut steps.
